Afterglow is a post-apocalyptic MMO perfect for busy players, coming soon
It's not the end of the world, but... Wait. No, it is actually

- Explore the apocalyptic American Southwest in Afterglow, a new casual MMORPG
- Command up to three scavengers as they scout the post-nuclear landscape
- Uncover strange artefacts and phenomena that could change the course of the world
The post-apocalypse is a concept that weirdly seems to grab us, despite how utterly dire the very idea is. But for many, it can be a struggle to find the time to indulge our dystopian fantasies. And that's something upcoming casual MMO Afterglow seeks to rectify!
Developed by Shadow Council PTY, Afterglow is set 77 years after a global nuclear war has decimated the planet. As one of the few survivors, you've just trekked into the American Southwest to start a new life, but between you and that dream lie dangers, unusual artefacts and strange phenomena that could save you or destroy you.
It's not hard to take a look at Afterglow and draw comparisons to something like NEO Scavenger. With a hex-crawling overworld and its turn-based combat, you could certainly do so, but Afterglow is aimed at a more casual audience, with an AFK rewards system and the ability to command up to three characters as they travel the wasteland.
Prepare for the future
As for release details, Afterglow is currently in closed alpha testing, with a projected 2025 launch on both iOS and Android. You can check out the official site for details as well as their official Discord! With its mixture of rather dark setting but casual gameplay, I can see Afterglow becoming a fan favourite. It's also interesting to make a comparison to something like Eterspire, and how the once-impossibly complex realm of MMORPGs has now become more feasible for smaller teams.
And if you're intrigued by the idea of role-playing in a dark future, fantasy world or sci-fi galaxyscape, then you're in luck.
