The Serpent & The Seed offers a compelling, and surprisingly fun, faith-based release
  • The Serpent & The Seed is a faith-based narrative experience, out now
  • Experience stories from the New and Old Testament from the beginning to the end
  • Minigames, a compelling soundtrack and beautiful art make this an intriguing new release

Religion. Boy howdy, that's a loaded topic for a mobile gaming website, isn't it? But don't fret, we're not here to discuss matters of philosophy. Although I don't think it's controversial to say religion in gaming rarely works out well. But occasionally, something really compelling emerges from a genuine desire to showcase a story through the lens of faith, such as the case of The Serpent & The Seed.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, The Serpent & The Seed (as you might guess) tells a variety of stories drawn from the Christian Bible, and the Old & New Testament. From the Garden of Eden to the Apocalypse, you'll get to know all the key moments that some of you who grew up with that religion may already know.

The compelling part here is in the aesthetic, music and overall design of The Serpent & The Seed. It offers a surprisingly gripping rendition of stories from the Bible, accompanied by the musical talent of Superbrothers composer Jim Guthrie.

In the beginning...

Religion in gaming can be heavy-handed most of the time, at best. But The Serpent & The Seed mixes a story-based approach with minigames and an overarching narrative that makes this play more like a game first and a faith narrative second.

With that in mind, while some may avoid it for conflicting with their own beliefs, for those open to the idea, it could be well worth giving a go, if only to experience the stories that define this faith from a new perspective.

Unfortunately, we don't have a list of faith-based games for you to peruse. But if you do want to stay Ahead of the Game with a host of new releases, check out our feature of the same name as we look at the much grimmer and grittier Halls of Torment!
