Ahead of the Game - Halls of Torment is a Vampire Survivors-esque roguelite where you willingly torment yourself within the titular halls
  • Try to survive as long as you can in the titular halls of torment
  • Upgrade your gear and unlock permanent buffs as you go along
  • Choose from different classes to suit your playstyle best

Hello and welcome to Ahead of the Game, a series where we tell you all about an upcoming game that, despite not being out yet, is available for you to play at the time of publishing. Through this series, you can grab a chance to play games well ahead of their release date, be that through Soft Launch, Open Beta, Demos, or more.

Why do we always hurt the ones we love? In this case, the aforementioned loved one is, indeed, yourself, as Halls of Torment will have you slashing through unspeakable horrors, dying, then rising from the grave to do it all over again.

Typical of roguelite adventures, this Vampire Survivors-esque romp through the titular halls of death and doom offers randomised abilities that might just up your chances of survival, but because no two runs are the same, it's a compelling loop that will keep you fighting and dying endlessly.

Now, I don't particularly find any pleasure in causing any self-induced misery, but because Halls of Torment makes you feel like a god while you're striking down foes with lightning bolts from above one minute and then fleeing for your life the next, I don't mind starting from scratch with every new death.

There are permanent buffs you can unlock each time you perish, after all, whether that's boosting your stats or upgrading your equipment to make sure you can at least outlast that pesky horde of low-level skeleton warriors for just one extra minute.

And because the gameplay loop is incredibly compelling - with new classes you can unlock as you go along - it doesn't even matter that the graphics aren't worth writing home about. All I know is that there are demons that need killing, resources that need plundering, and tormented halls that need exploring, and I am all too willing to volunteer as tribute.
