  • Craft and survive across a vibrant open world

Hello and welcome to Ahead of the Game, a series where we tell you all about an upcoming game that, despite not being out yet, is available for you to play at the time of publishing. Through this series, you can grab a chance to play games well ahead of their release date, be that through Soft Launch, Open Beta, Demos, or more.

Ever since Palworld took the monster-collecting world by storm, everyone's been clamouring for a similar experience on mobile. And while many have tried (and failed), it does seem like Lightus is stepping up to the plate.

As you might expect from the genre, this open-world survival monster-collector will have you gathering resources from the wild, crafting items for your settlement, and catching monsters you see milling about, minding their own business.

You can add them to your collection or set them to battle - that is, if you have the heart to do so given how adorable they are.

To me, what makes Lightus stand out a bit more is its Minecraft-esque building mode, where you place blocks to shape the world to your liking. All this adds to the freedom you're given across the wide open fields, which you can freely explore once you've got a handy and majestic mount ready to ride by your side.

You can also make dyes to customise your stuff, as well as cook gastronomic delights - or, at the very least, to get by without starving to death in the wild. It's certainly got potential, so there's hope for mobile Palworld-likes yet!

So, how do you play Lightus?

Lightus is currently in early access, and based on the official Facebook account, it seems the developers are keen on adding improvements to boost the experience for everyone - and that's always a good thing.

If you're eager to see if it's got what it takes to become your next obsession, you can always give it a go from the store links below. It's free-to-play, after all!
