Welcome to Off The AppStore, a weekly feature with a twist. Namely, that while these - as with all the games we cover here - are games that you can play on your phone, they're ones that operate outside of the realms of the big two ways to play: The Google Play Store and the Apple AppStore.

That means that there might be a bit of work required in downloading alternative AppStores or APKs, or that the games can simply be played in your phone browser. We'll make sure to detail that for each game though. Anyway, read on to find a new game or experience to play Off The AppStore.

In 2015, Toby Fox struck a high-pressure vein of liquid gold when he released Undertale. I'd bet that no one was as surprised by the game's success as he was, and his response was to step back and reflect on it. But he didn't stop creating and put forth plans to make a worthwhile sequel, which he released in 2025, comprising four chapters, and promised to release more as free add-ons. With Deltarune's successful release and renewed interest in the Undertale universe, some other folks have thought about joining in. RickyGDev is one of those folks with their release of DONTFORGET.

DONTFORGET is an honest-to-Fox fan game set in the Undertale and Deltarune universe. It works hard to emulate the distinct 2D pixel-art style as well as the tone. These games are odd, quirky, with some heavy themes balanced by plenty of light-hearted comedy. This one aims to evoke a similar feeling while also focusing on another aspect: community. It serves to be a part of this universe that can be shared among all of its visitors. By going online, you can interact with other players, create parts of the world, and join in on quests.

Harlow arrives in the Underground.

The offline version allows you to play solo, providing a base adventure and a chance to have some fun. This time, the everyman protagonist is by default a human named Harlow who has fallen into the Underground, a world filled with monsters. However, exploration reveals that the underground can be a peaceful place, with monsters that are just as harmless. Still, they're not accustomed to seeing humans and will defend themselves reflexively, so you'll have to dodge their attacks via mini-games. This means that you have the option to convince them that you're not a threat and befriend them, or do what comes naturally in turn-based RPGs. There are also some puzzles scattered about to give your brain a workout and quests to keep you busy exploring and meeting.

DONTFORGET succeeds at being a memorable experience that does justice to its forebearers while being its own thing. It has a lot of care and effort put into it to show respect and give players a quality experience, whether they're looking to socialise or just have an adventure. It'll be quite some time until we get more Deltarune chapters, so do yourself a favour and don't forget that this is out there.

DONTFORGET is available to download and play from its itch.io page!
