Ah, Metal Slug - the epitome of the good ol' days button-mashing at the arcade without a care in the world. While the franchise is best known for its explosive shoot 'em up style, this time around, it's back with a vengeance with a tactical twist in Metal Slug Tactics.

Combat is, as you might expect, a tactical affair, with you properly positioning your units across a grid to deal the most devastating damage. It's a turn-based treat that sees the return of Marco, Tarma, Fio, and Eri in a nostalgic but modernised package, all ported to mobile thanks to Crunchyroll Game Vault.

The tactical RPG forgoes the 2D run-and-gun format for a more strategic approach this time around, with abilities you can chain and the right terrain to master to get the upper hand. As you flank your foes and watch your synchronised attacks unfold, you'll need to think fast and adapt to the circumstances too - all this to put your strategic mastery to the test.

As for your squad, you can upgrade and equip them with the right gear and customised loadouts for the most epic damage, all presented with old-school pixel-art to keep the OG franchise alive.

Now that it's on mobile, you can give it a go via the Crunchyroll Game Vault exclusively with no ads or in-app purchases. You'll have to sign up for a membership to the Mega or Ultimate Fan tier though, but given its growing library of RPGs, narrative adventures, and other what-have-yous, it's worth having a look.

And I say that as someone who recently became obsessed with Shogun Showdown, so that alone might just be worth the price of admission. If you're still on the fence though, why not take a little peek at the embedded clip above to get a feel of the vibes and visuals?
