The hustle and bustle of our lives keeps us busy, so we sometimes struggle to find a moment for ourselves. Even things like going out and getting a coffee can feel like an ordeal in the late afternoon, and playing a game requires us to, you know, press buttons and think.

This is why we can turn to idle titles, which are designed to ease us into adventures of all varieties, whilst still allowing us to reap the rewards and accomplishments. One such example is Echoes of Creation - a 2D pixel RPG that’s ready to lead you on a journey, and you'll need to be prepared to offer guidance here and there.

What is Echoes of Creation?

Fantasy plots can go all over the place, making it difficult to keep track of all the concepts and new words being thrown around. In the interest of going for a more relaxed angle, Echoes of Creation gets to the point quite fast. You are an unknown adventurer who has felt a mysterious calling pull you to an ancient place of unknown purpose. From there, you are urged to seek out pieces of great power that have been scattered to the different regions of the land. However, the pieces have become ingrained in the natural order of each environment, so the beast within will not let it go without a fight, and you must be prepared to give them one.

The great acoustics of Echoes of Creation

There have been idle RPGs for quite some time now, but Echoes of Creation makes a solid case to get its foot in the door. As an indie title just starting to spread its wings, it puts focus on its mechanics to make them reliable and straightforward. Your custom-named adventurer will make progress automatically or via your prompting, but will never stop training or fighting unless you tell them. You can watch them in one-on-one fights against the various monsters and learn from their performance, and the details and presentation are intuitive enough that you can easily figure out the finer aspects.

Then there's the character-building. While the adventurer only has one default appearance at the moment, they can be transformed by their equipment, level-ups, and abilities. As they fight, they'll gain experience points and gear, which you can use to shape your warrior in numerous ways. The adventurer is automatically skilled in wielding every weapon and wearing every armor piece so that you can mix and match to your heart's content. The skill points are where you have to get serious, but you still have a lot to play with. The earlier class options let you put points here and there to test out their effects and see how they fare for you. As you find the ones that work best, you can commit to one path and see what specialised classes lie in store for you.

Now, we can't forget about the nostalgia factor. Although pixel art is a popular style with some awe-inspiring creations, it can be challenging to make it stand out. The reason it's working here is due to its almost gritty nature. The adventurer, monsters, and even the items all have a retro edge that makes them fit with more traditional RPGs while still incorporating modern performance tweaks. With more time, we can see even more detailed creations and some animation.

Clearing up Echoes of Creation

There's a strong platform beneath Echoes of Creation that provides support, allowing it to build upon its current state in the future. One desirable change would be to the visuals, as they currently can be limited at times. It'd be great to see more distinct changes in attacks based on the kind of gear your adventurer has equipped, and indeed some movement for the more interesting monsters. For character building, the abilities could use some more attention. There’s quite a selection, but the more interesting abilities are not immediately available, and it will take a while for you to obtain them.

Listening for Echoes of Creation

Echoes of Creation is a 2D pixel-art idle RPG about going on a quest across different lands to slay monsters and gather power. The appearance is clean and nostalgic, with solid and straightforward mechanics and many options to build the idle adventurer you want. There's still room and time to enhance the visuals and make elements like the abilities more accessible so that the title can shine brighter. Getting through real life can be an ordeal that anyone can struggle with, but during downtime, you can take a moment to listen for the echoes of creation.

If you’re an Android user and interested in trying the game for yourself then you’ll be pleased to know that Echoes of Creation’s global launch is just one week away. You can pre-register right now on Google Play and receive an exclusive outfit for your main character once it’s released.
