The Wrapp - Poké Picnics, Stunning Vampires, and Whimsical Murder

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

This is a chance for you to see what the various members of the Pocket Gamer team are planning to play over this weekend and will, hopefully, give you an idea of some of the weird and wonderful things we get up to when we’re not keeping you up to speed with the latest news and tips. Heck, you might even find a new game to play.

It’s a busy Pokémon weekend for me. We’re running a Golden Lure Picnic on Saturday (where we put out the Lures that are needed for the coins to evolve Gimmighoul) ahead of the Eevee Community Day, which also happens to run on Sunday. I just finished off my missions for level 49 in PoGo, so I’m now chipping away at the ones for level 50 (including getting 999x Excellent Throws - which this weekend should help with).

I’m also working on finishing off the — timing astute — Eevee pack in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. I managed a trade the other day, which concluded my Triumphant Light set.

Now I’m only missing, 1X Space-Time Smackdown, 1x Shining Revelry, 2x Celestial Guardians and 11 Eevee Grove cards for the full set… which is, frankly, ridiculous as I normally bounce off things pretty quick when holes start appearing in collections.

Outside of mobile, I’ve been playing a lot of Mr Sun’s Hatbox between tasks, but I’ve now finished the New Game+ and so am looking toward other stuff. I love how it distils MGS: Phantom Pain’s mercenary system into a goofy, platforming roguelike, and so I’ll likely be moving to other ‘mercenary’ games, likely Battle Brothers… a game that I’d love a mobile port for.

The latest news on the Pokémon TCG Pocket promo card made me realise just how far behind I am now, and it’s all because of Shogun Showdown. I’m therefore resolving to take a break this weekend by stepping out into the outside world, which hopefully hasn’t changed all that much since I’ve been away.

Things are looking super cosy for me. When I’m not checking my phone for hedgehog friends in Hananezumi, I’ll either be settling into Hello Kitty Island Adventure or digging through everything added in The Sims 4’s recent patch. I’m super curious about how glass walls are going to work, so I’ll maybe build a big fancy botanical garden for Oasis Springs.

For whatever reason, Pokémon Go is doing a double Community Day on the same weekend where Gimmighouls are able to become Shiny. So, on Saturday, I am running a Golden Lure Party in hopes of evolving a Shiny Gimmighoul, and then I am doing Community Day for Eevee on both days. My goal is 40 Shiny Eevee.

I might try out some Crash Course Builder to get a taste of an Ultimate Chicken Horse peer. The concept of custom endless runner levels sounds cool and could work quite well. This will prompt me to look into builder tools that can be used on mobile devices or that are exclusively designed for mobile use. If I were to comb through itch, GitHub, Tap, and other hosts, I might find some games that were created solely on mobile.

I also need to revisit some FMV and see how games like Myst translate to the mobile scene with all their live-action glory.

I really enjoyed playing Silver and Blood briefly before, and now I find myself thinking more and more about it. I think I'll give it another shot this weekend and try to understand the characters more. It's so beautiful, and when you think about all those vampire games that we've played before, none of them portray the characters in such a stand-out manner!

Oh, and on a different note, I did download Stray Cat Doors 3, which looks incredibly cosy and awesome! I can't wait to give that one a try too!

It’s a relatively eventful weekend for me, so it’s the usual rotation. But I did nab Cultist Simulator when it was free last week, and since I have an upcoming flight I might jump in to get some practice. If there’s anything you can say about Weather Factory games, it’s that they’re always dense and hard to fathom, but that’s all part of the fun.

Unfortunately, I won’t have much time to game this weekend. I shall be heading to the Lytham Festival today, and then I'll be working a lot of the time. I will, however, be enjoying the Nonogram app I downloaded this week. Whilst I might not be the best, I do enjoy a good puzzle.

After reading our App Army's thoughts on Slayaway Camp 2 this week, I've decided to give it a go myself. Despite the horror theme, it all seems kind of cute, and I enjoy a good Sokoban puzzler. That's two good reasons to dive in, I'd say. And I can do so, safe in the knowledge that I'm the evil that lurks at the bottom of the lake.

When I'm not channelling my inner chibi Jason Voorhees, I'll probably dive back into TCG Pocket's ranked scene. Shaun pointed out the potential for Alcremie to do silly damage, and my goal is now to topple a Charizard with a sentient dessert. It'll absolutely take a few tries, but if we can give one lizard the Wimbledon Special, I'll be chuffed.
